Cha Ca La Vong Restaurant

In Ha Noi, there are many restaurants where sell fried fish, but Cha Ca La Vong may be the most famous and long-standing at 14 Cha Ca Street in Hanoi’s Old Quarter.
In ancient days, there was a street where sell paints, called the paints street. Mr. Doan Xuan Phuc- a member of the Doan family lived at house No.14 of this street. One day, his wife- Mrs. Bi Hi Van went to the market and saw a girl of fishing village who sell a big Hemibagrus. She buys it and cooks according to their method. Great taste of this exotic dish make her to look at and buy it every day when she went to the market and then the Doan family opened the shop to sell fried fish with soft noodles and seasoning. There are a wooden statue of an old fisherman (La Vong) holding a fishing rod and a string of fish stands at the door.

Customer come to enjoy fried fish with every passing day and called it ‘Cha Ca La Vong”, the street was renamed by the people here as Cha Ca Street. Today most fish here is still Hemibagrus like origin. In other place, it is usually prepared by catfish or snack-head fish. Perhaps, Because Hemibagrus is more rare and expensive. Fried fish here is delicious because of spices and reducer. Fried fish here is little brown, soft, not hard, not dry. Perhaps, this is the particular secret of this restaurant. There is not only delicious fried fish, but fish bowel dish and fish soup attracts customers coming to restaurant.

When coming to Cha Ca La Vong Restaurant, while you sit down at the table, the waiter will place some seasoning includes a bowl of dill and sliced vegetable onions, a bowl of shrimp paste sauce mixed up with lemon, a few slices of red fresh pimento, a plate of grilled ground nuts.
